What transmission do I need to convert a 1993 f150 from 5-speed to automatic? Can I use my existing transfer case and/or computer? Truck is 4x4 with 300 6 cylinder. Any advice? Thanks. <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->
i would use the E40D auto trans if u want to do the swap, there are a lot of them out there and if u get the trans u might as well get the transfer case with it. an easy indication that a truck has an E40D is to look at the tranny pan, it will be square in shape but one corner of it goes inward a little bit and have exactly 20 bolts holding the pan in place. or look at the sticker in the door jam under trans it will have an E but i would look at that and the tranny pan to make sure its an E40D and it wasnt swapped.

The problem with that is he is then going to need a stand alone controller for the trans. A non-computer controlled trans might be better, maybe an AOD if overdrive is required or the bullet proof C6 if overdrive doesn` matter.
Yea thats true and a good point but to pull the computer out of the truck hes pulling the trans out of wouldnt be that big of a deal, plus an older tranny like a c6 might not bolt up to the 93 300 and he might half to move the crossmember? im not sure, but i was just trying to stick closer to the year of his truck then there would be a good chance of the bell housing bolting right up to the motor and crossmember lineing up. but im sure either way requires some thinking and swapping of parts anway.
