Help I am looking to install an amp in my 05 250 ,I have already replaced speakers , and installed an I pod interface on my 6 disk ford radio.I don't want a lot of power as speakers can only handel 100 watts. Need to know what are good low power amps? I plan on mounting under center console , which I added, there is aprox 2 or 3 in to work with and have a small 12 volt fan to install with the amp .Don't have a lot to spend and will be looking on E bay have seen some for as little as $50.00 but not shure if they are any good . Thanks for any help
I haven't shopped in a while, but you get what you pay for and I am thinking $1 per watt is about right. Cheaper amps are either less efficient (produce more heat) or just can't put out their advertised power.
I wish I hadn't sold my old crossfire 4x100, I bought it just over 10 years ago and it was a nice little amp. I believe I payed $415 and it ran my components and a pair of subs quite well without getting very warm.
What really matters is how clean that power is with amperage. You can do more with less watts the more you spend actually.
Most speakers blow from dirty power or too LITTLE wattage not too much wattage. Spending more now, you spend less later fixing blown speakers.
Example: I have focal 165 a1 components and they call for 60 watts nominal and 120 watts max I got a 2x150 watt Phoenix Gold amp for them and set it's gain with a test tone. It sounds great and is nice and clean.
Find an amp that is putting out higher wattage RMS than your speakers need RMS and you should have nice clean power. So for you speakers I would look for a clean 2x150 watts like I did. It will wake those speakers up.
As for amp brands I think alpine, rockford,jl and Sundown are all worth a look.
I see you are in Orlando so check craigslist there are deals galor just make sure it works before you buy.
Ok what I am seeing is that the 49.95 and 70.00 amps ain't woth the trouble. I have been looking at some used ones but they all get priced out of my range on E Bay . Will check out crags list.
