I have always wondered what percentage of synthetic oil is included in semi-synyhetic. None of the labels disclose that information. You would be better off making your own mix of regular and synthetic. I know Mobil 1 says it is compatable with other oils. At one time Mobile 1 had carrier oils, whatever that meant.
Oil is such a personal thing among the FTE guys. I really don't believe there is one that is better than another. As long as you change it regularly and watch for any signs of needing to do it sooner (like with a Blackstone report), just about any oil will work fine.
That being said, my personal pref on my F350 is Rotella T. Won't get into that as we are on the F150 forum. I do use the Motorcraft semi-synth from Wally World for my wifes 5.4 Expy. We have had that for 25k miles (bought it used) and change the oil/rotate tires myeslf every 5k. I have not done a blackstone oil analysis on it but it looks really good after 5k. I also like Fram filters. Dunno why. Just do.
I lurk here in the F150 forum cuz I am ready to "upgrade" my 03 F350 6.0L to an 06 or newer Eff Wun Fiddy. I am really getting excited about it. Looking for a Lariat SCrew with the 20s and the 6.5' bed. Must be white for company colors.
Back to oil, I used to run amsoil with slightly extended change intervals in my '00 F250 gasser. I used it in the tranny and both differentials. Didn't really notice much difference. I think if you are going to take full advantage of the Amsoil's extended change intervals, you really need to do some additional filtering and definitely some oil analysis between (read-before) changes. I would, however (Still Smokin) use an independent analysis company (like Blackstone) rather than Amsoil. I just view that as the fox watching the hen house. Maybe that is a bit paranoid...Maybe Amsoil knows their product better and what to watch for...
SO, back to oil for your F150...take your pick and be comfortable with what you choose. I think that is what matters.
Can you explain what you mean by "Semi-Synthetic" oil?
I just meant synthetic blend. It's not a full synthetic oil. I have been told that is what they use in my 2005 F150. It is 5w-20 synthetic blend. I thought that I could only get Motorcraft Oil from a Ford dealership but thanks to all the replies I found out that they carry it at numerous places. I just never really looked and I don't spend a lot of time in auto parts stores. I would always take it through the quick lane because they charged $35-$40 for an oil change, top off all fluids and rotate my tires.

WOW our quick lane is 19.95 + tax
+ top off
no rotate

That would be sweet. They actually call ours a Fuel Saver Package. And then I pay extra for the 7 quarts instead of 5. It is pricey but I only change oil every 3000 or a little over so its worth it to me. It would cost me about the same to buy my own oil and filter and spend the time doing it. I'm not lazy it's just convenient. I have always changed my own oil on my other vehicles but with some of these new cars you can't even get your hand in the engine compartment. My F150 should be easy I won't even need a jack!
