Well you can start with the exhaust, single 2.5" is very restrictive - go 3" after the turbo, and after the downpipe go 4" if you can, it will all help it breathe out. Air intake also leaves a lot to be desired, people have come up with several different cold-air setups so just browse the forum a bit. You can also turn your pump up a bit, I did it to mine and on long trips I'm at steady 20mpg at 2000 rpms, hilly terrain included - you really wanna have a pyrometer for that tho, as tis pretty easy to overfuel big time and melt a few pistons.

Bluecrew250,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

Turbo outlet and downpipe followed by a less restrictice 3" or larger exhaust will be a good start to a much better running engine.

Follow that up with a boost gauge and pyrometer.

Next area is a cold air intake, but unfortunately you have to make that, none on the market that are worth what they want for them.

If you start increasing the boost, then an intercooler will also help.
