So I've done the reading across the site and I've found a guy local that works for a Ford Dealer that does transmission repairs/upgrades on the side. He's supposed to be the 4R100 guru so I contacted him today to price the work on my tranny.
I had heard I was going to spend about $600 in parts and $750 in labor for him to do the Sure Cure, a triple lock torque converter, and Kevlar bands, to name just the highlights. Now I've talked to him and with the addition of a 6.0L cooler, he priced parts at $1350.
So $2100 to firm up the transmission before my big trip to Arizona with my new 5th wheel. Does that seem reasonable? I know I can't do the work myself, and I'm trying to get solid before calling Jody for an F6. Just trying to make sure I'm in the right ball park.
I'm stuck too, I want a good reliable trans but can't really afford it. Their expensive. I might have to rebuild one with borq warner internals and a few internals if it stays slow for me at work.
Yeah I know, I had spoke to him before about selling me a kit as to what he uses to build a high performance trans and he ignored my request but I do understand. He makes his money on mostly and he wouldn't be able to warranty anything. I know he wouldn't be comfortable as most people would be talking crap if something bad were to happen. But it's the only way I could see having a good quality trans or at least internals.
$4k is a whole lot of mnoney to me right now as I've been counting in the singles instead or 100's or $1k's recently.
He also confirmed to me what I thought I was having issues, the imput shaft went bad. The trans fluid smells horrible. It went from fresh to disgusting in a week, I wasn't even towing heavy 7-10k for a few days.
