I' m not new to this site, but I don't usually ask questions because most of the time I can find what I need in a search. But not this time. I am usally amazed at all the good info on this site. I have a 1976 390 4x4. I have been thinking about headers. Saw a ad for POPs performance shorty headers. I was wondering if anyone had any info on POPs parts and the headers. They are kindy of pricy at $499. But they look they would fit better than most long headers. Thanks for any and all info
Take a look at Sanderson Headers. Perticularly the "FF427" headers. I just got mine for $400 shipped to my door. They are ceramic coated and come with a warranty just as long as your engine is dialed in. I am curretly getting a full mandrel bent 304 stainless exhaust installed. I am going to do a post on this as soon as I get the truck back. There aren't many posts that cover headers for these trucks and for the ones that do, they only mention the non-coated headman or something of that nature. By the way, I'm not sure if you would have any issues on a 4x4. Keep an eye out, as I will be posting pics as well.
Yea it was originally a 360 but it had been changed to a 390 before I bought it. I checked the stroke. It has a sweet sounding cam and a 4bl carb. It runs real good but doesn't seem to be real peppy. I helped my son put a 460 out of a 1975 Lincoln in his 1977 4x4 with a 4bl carb and that will really scream. Thanks for the info about the shorty headers. I think I will go with the long headers. I just haven't decided which one yet.
Check the timing. And check the mechanical (and vacuum) advance and make sure it's all moving and working properly. Sometimes a sticky mechanical or vacuum advance (or leaking vacuum advance) can make it have a lot less oomph then you think it should.
