my cluth is engaging in its notmal spot and works normaly, but the clutch pedal isnt coming out all the way after i engage it. if i give it a little nudge from behind with my toe it will pop out like it notmaly does. is there a spring or something that makes the pedal come all the way out? it drives normaly, but is this bad for my clutch or something? i can live with it if its not bad, but it sure is anoying lol. and its a 1990 f150, 302, 5 speed. thank you very much.
Look down at how the clutch linkage works. There is a clutch rod going across the top of the pedals and on the far right side is a piece of steel called the clutch lever that has a little spindle sticking out of it. This spindle fits into a round ring shaped end of the master cylinder plunger. The two are held together by a small plastic retaining clip. Something in there is probably wore out and causing things to get ****-eyed and stick. The plastic clip is probably the first thing to go. Once it does the two steel pieces (spindle and ring) start wearing on each other. It's real cheap and real easy to replace the clip. You can get it from LMC truck. It's much more work to replace the other two. Ask me how I know.
There are also bushings on the rod that spans the top of the pedals. They are also plastic and probably shot.
No problem, and you're welcome. I spent hours fixing this crap. I hope you don't have the same problems. This is a classic example of "a stitch in time." That little plastic clip is something like $10 from LMCTruck. The only other place I could find it was through a parts store by buying the master cylinder for $40-50. The $10 is much cheaper and easier.
I had to replace the bushings in the top rod and the clutch lever, and the plastic clip and the clutch plunger. I actually fixed the plunger by welding in new steel. Then I had to bleed the cylinder. It was a real PITA. If you're lucky, all you'll have to do is replace a few plastic parts. Good Luck.
You can get it from almost any auto parts store.
It comes in a "HELP" assortment from Dorman/Motormite for $3-4.
I've posted the p/n before, let me see if I can find it...
