Does this make sense?

I was driving on the interstate yesterday morning in Virginia and passed a National Forest Service car with U. S. Government tags on it. IT WAS A HONDA CIVIC! (Hybrid)

Why in the world are we giving the American auto companies bailout money while the Federal Government is buying foreign cars?

Because, as anyone knows, Hybrids are the ultimate "Green" Vehicle. And aren't Forest Service vehicles all painted green?

Or maybe the local Purchasing manager was very PC and green.

I would think a hybrid would not be the best choice for a vehicle used on long drives or in a forest. In the city they have advantages, although the Honda doesn't have regenerative braking, so even in the city the Honda is a so so choice. But at least it is a hybrid right?

Ford has a Hybrid mini SUV, wonder why they didn't buy that one? Might make sense for a vehicle that might make it into the woods.

Just for the sake of dicussion, in 1976 Subaru and the U.S. Ski Team began a partnership. The U.S. Ski Team adopted the Subaru 4WD station wagon as its “Official Car.”

Remember the TV commercials?

The only vehicle the US forest service should ever need is a F-350 4x4 crew cab, thats all the FS uses here.

It would of made more sense for them to have used ford hybrid escapes with 4x4 for that line of work. I know a lot of goverment contracts are done by bid, maybe honda had the lowest bid for fleet vehicle at that time. Never the less, a hybrid 4x4 would of made more sense, but were talkin goverment here!!!!!!!!!

no, there is an EO that all govt vehicles must now be green. so they can either buy low mpg US hybrids (even the malibu and escape are kinda piggish compared to the imports) or get the imports. they could have said: get high mpg US made cars and all 3 would have been selected from.

Sounds genius, pretty soon they will make all law enforcement drive some 80mph max hybrid to make everyone feel better, except the poor ******* they need to get to in a hurry.

The Forest service here all drive nearly new F150's painted dark green. Since they actually have to go in the forest a twinky hybrid isn't really going to work.

Thats what I was saying, at least a 4x4 hybrid escape would allow them to travel off/road.
