What is your ideas on add-on truck caps, styles, covers, manufacturers, color and designs? How about some pics of what ya got?
I don't have a lot of experience with this, but, when I bought my truck, it already had a set of aluminium diamond plate jobs on it. They look great, until you notice that the patterns do not match. It drives me nuts.
My driver's side (when standing behind the truck) is nice and straight (patternwise), but the passenger side seems to point about 5 degrees to the right.
VIsion. Nice quality cap. Has Grey Lining inside, Sliding side windows, All windows tinted with double locking rear latches. You can order them painted to match the truck color.
it depends on what you haul. if you are using it simply to keep snow and rain out of your bed, a tonneau cover is a better choice. it doesnt have a back window to fog up and if you need to haul something big, just roll it up. if you carry tools or anything taller than the bed rails around all the time than i would go for the cap.
In my opinion there good for camping some hauling and extra weight in the back. i'll try and get some pictures of the one im trying to get rid of, mine is a leer black fiberglass. if ya get one make sure the color matches your truck it just don't look right.(reason i don't like mine lol)
Here's what I had on my '75 F-100. It turned out to be a camper, with tractor/trailer marker lights tucked under the rails, and a Kenworth sleeper 3-way hi-lo light. Wired for tv/vcr/dvd, etc. I loved sleeping in there when it rained.

Reason: year change
^^^^ +1. Leer topper on my wife's truck looks a lot like DLX's Vision. Nice bright interior light, third brake light, double rear latch, paint color match is dead-on. Only problem is, NOBODY has the key blank; you want the key copied, you pretty-much have to go to a Leer dealer.
MY TRUCK with simple, basic aluminum cap installed. I have a total of $50 plus four clamps I got for Christmas one year invested. It is light enough I can install and remove by myself, weighs less than 100 lbs. Water tight, cheap, does what I need and locks.
Been looking at an ARE, their MX and CX caps are really nice. Both have top hinge flip up rears that replace the tailgate, but also have tinted rear entry door encased in the moulding. You can also opt to replace side glass with recessed lockable tool strorage. Pretty neat setup...I haven't gotten a price yet though.
i ordered my cap like 3weeks ago and its finnaly getting put on tomorrow, i went with a ARE cap, no windows down the sides, front window slides, rear is tinted, 3rd brake lamp, inside lamps, cant wait to get it on
With the sliding windows on the cab and the cap, we were able to pass the kids thier drinks and snacks, while keeping an eye on them. Plus, turn the tv off when they fell asleep, but left the light on for a nightlite. Drive through the nite and park at the site.
When the sun came up over the lake, the looks on thier faces.

That's nearly exactly what I'm looking for, for my 93 F-150. Ballpark figure, how much does one like that cost? I assume you had to pay extra to have it painted to match the truck color?
