general powerstroke diesel question

When my 2006 F350 is idling, it keeps reving higher and staying there even when the engine is warm....is that a "throttle kicker" and can I program the computer to turn it off

I would suspect (but don't know) It's a high idle to (help) prevent cyclinder wash.

Yes when you hit the accelerator, but then again starts idling higher in a few minutes. I should mention I live in Winnipeg and it`s been -20 to -30 all winter.

I wonder if it has a factory setting that increases the rpm`s to keep the engine temp warm?

sounds normal. mine does the same thing. might fire it up, let it run a minute, drive a couple miles, then let it idle and it'll still idle up again.

I want to say that I read on here somewhere that it will idle up until the oil temp reaches 158*. Mine does the same thing when I first get going until it's thoroughly warmed up.

It is for more than one reason. 1 it does this to charge the battery when the computer sees a potential low voltage. I can remember the second right now but there are two ways to do it by manipulating the computer to think a certain parameter has been reached. Most people do a high idle mod. This is so the ac blows cold in the summer when idling, the heater stays hot, the truck charges when lights or accy are plugged in and truck is idling also it is said to help prevent soot on the turbo

Ditto on mine. It does the same until it's up to full operating temp.

I might be crazy but it seems like with the latest flash that I just received about 3 weeks ago my 6.0 goes to high idle even sooner that it did before
