K so I was poking around under the hood checking the coolant since I've noticed this noise.... The turbo to ic boot that goes on the piping is pretty oily and dirty as are other the other boots. I was told that the noise might be a pinhole in one of the boots. Upon looking at the upper turbo boot that is like a 45 degree boot I noticed that it seems to have drgraded and looks rough and has almost not rigidity... I know it is rubber and not going to be solid but it seems like It would be bad. I called the two dealers here one wants $65+ the other wants 95+ for just the boot. Are these special boots? Could I not get someting like it at say the international dealer or possibly somewhere else? Seems like there is a huge markup on this item.... Any thoughts?
They are new and improved. They have a liner that resists oil or something. I just had to buy one ($84) and it is a lot more rigid than the original. Still a rip off at that price though.
I actually stopped at Stuart Hose and Pipe here in Dallas and was talking with a gentleman about them the other day. I might've been the one that recommended you to look at those, as I've recently replaced them in past months, and I told someone to check them. So anywho...I'm gonna see if there is a possibility of going to like a Hydraulic style hose, but the only problem is if the holes are getting there from turbo back pressure and I replace the hose with Hydraulic Hose, then the hose isn't going to be the weak point anymore...the turbo will. Catch 22
I could get some rubber boots that are similar that we use while doing plumbing service but they are not in 45 degree fittings. But would cost 4-6 bucks. Might not handle heat though .... Just seems way to pricey
sometimes things are worth the price paid...but I feel your pain, I think I'm due again. I have an aftermarket intake (jobe) and it's huge (you can put you fist into the cross pipe to the turbo). Since adding it I get a lot of turbo burping if I let off the throttle too fast. I think it's wearing out that hose.
I've had that hose blow off while towing 10,000 lbs, and that wasn't fun. After I put it back on the third time in about 5 miles, I would have paid $500. My advice is, don't cheap out on this one.
Ok boot replaced... The old one cleaned up and has some splits in it... Hoping this eliminates the train horn noise... Btw make sure you get the boots tight! I though they were tight and 26psi came..... Boom I retightend them and them tightened them a lil more now I don't seem to loose boost as fast or maybe I'm just payong better attn.
