front stablizer question

front stablizer question

On a '03 F-250 HD 4x4 what is the purpose of the front stablizer and how does it work? thanks

Not to sure how it technically works but, It sure keeps you from feeling like the truck is going to roll over. Had it break on one truck and man if you put a larger load in the bed maybe 2ton or more and go around a curve fast you sure want it or it gets scary with out it there!!! Plus your truck will ride nicer not like a boat!

i had an old ford dump that didnt have one an every time you hit a big pot hole with a heavy load you woul get an uncontrollable wheel wobble dont know if its the same with the newer trucks.

The stabilzer bar is basicaly a torsion bar. As one wheel travels up, it twists and provides a certain level of upwords pressure on the opposite side. The effectively stiffens up the suspension in "swaying" situations like going around a corner and swerving. All pickups have them on the front axels and some have them in the rear as well. The rear one is esspecially nice when packing loads with a high center of gravity like campers.

u refering to the anti-sway bars or the steering stabilizer ???

I absorbs and dampens some the road shocks that get transfered to the steering wheel via a horzional shock absorber.

Fordfanatic4life The "U" shaped bar about 1 1/4 inch dia that runs from one side to the other behind the front axle. It is attached to the frame on both sides with another bar about 14 inches long.

yea thats the anti-sway bar...

basicly helps to keep the vehicle more level during cornering...transfers cornering forces to the opposite side via that bar u noticed...

hope that helps ...
