We are all sorry to hear about Lola. I'm sure she was a good pet and brought you a lot of enjoyment over the years.

Ever see that TV show on Animal Planet when the SPCA goes to visit these situations? They make you want to jump into the crime scene and pulverize the people resonsible!

Ever see the court scenes? Piles of framed pet photos sometimes line the walls of the judge's court room.

The unfortunate thing is I have to live next door for a very long time. They have not gotten another animal since and hopefully will not. A month or two ago I had to pull their 10 year old boy from the railroad tracks after the train ran over his foot. As strange as it sounds, they are nice people that just do not seem to pay attention to the outside world.

We don't get along with our neighbor. Unfortunately, our kids play together once in a while. As far as how she found out - It turns out my daughter told the neighbors kids on the school bus and they told their parents. The doghouse is in a pen and the opening faces my house. So she would have had to come into my yard to look inside. We don't have a problem with the SPCA. The man who came to our house acted professionally and the first thing he told us was that there is always 2 sides to every story. He seemed very passionate about his job and thats a good thing in his line of work. The reason we are so mad is that our neighbor decided to call the authorities instead of finding out the whole story first. Now that its been a couple of days, I think its best if we just keep our distance and not ad fuel to the fire.

Instead of just mentioning it to you, your neighbors sound like the kind of people that would call the police if they noticed you had a brake light out.

This is really like getting stabbed in the back!

Them seem very vindictive!

Just do your best to keep cool about this.

You don't have to return the favor right now!

Sorry for your loss. I know how you must feel.

The neighbor should have talked to you instead of convicting you. The SPCA in your area sounds like good people.

I would tell the neighbor how I feel and what happened as a result of their meddling and that they are not welcome on my property, ever. They may of had good intentions but, handled it very poorly.

I would then remind them they were trespassing, since they had to go on your property to see inside the dog house, and you will see if there may be a law against that.

I would then drop it as you and they have kids that play together and it can certainly create an uncomfortable situation for them.

Good luck and again, sorry for your loss,
ck

I think everyone related to this mess have one thing in common and that is they love dogs....You need to break the ice with the neighbor and it would be better if she when she finds out the true story would call you and clear the air. By the way the TV shows with the SPCA going and finding mistreated animals are the only TV shows that I can not watch. I have rescued dogs and cats even when it cost alot to rent the capture cages because I cant stand to know an animal needs help and Im the only one that can.

Sorry for your loss Icefan, every time we lose one of our dogs it seems like it's too much.

But yeah, I can see two sides to the story. Seeing a dog left as you left her, it would be easy for someone to misinterpret that as animal abuse, which I have no tolerance for. On the other hand, a quick conversation initiated by your neighbor could have saved a lot of trouble, for you and the SPCA.

I would humbly offer one piece of advice in a case like that - wrap the dog in a blanket, or do something to show that the pet is cared for and has been attended to. It may not be necessary, but it can save some wrong impressions...

Im sorry to hear of the loss of your dog, and that you have such jerks for neighbors. Hopefully it all works out so you can give her a proper burial at home. I wish i was able to do that. Unfortunately in our area, burying a pet or anything in your yard is illegal and is viewed as a "health threat" to others. When our Boxer Mugsy passed away at home at age 10 from old age, we had to turn his remains over to the county so they could autopsy him and then we were billed $120 for the local vet to creamate him. I asked them if i could bury him at home and thats when i found out that it was a crime to do so. Once again I hope it all turns out for you and that you have my condolences for your loss.

You gotta love Chicago. I bet they came up with that law cause the mayor's nephew has a pet cremation business.

I too am sorry for your loss.

Sometimes it's not very easy to go and talk to a neighbor when something seems wrong. I work a lot with the Animal Control in my area and have had to talk to numerous people about treating their dogs right. (I swear, I wonder where peoples heads, and hearts are at times). Anyway, I have had to speak to several of my neighbors as well, and normally all goes well, but, like today, there are times I wish I would have just called Animal Control instead of trying to fix the problem myself. These neighbors have several large dogs, and now several puppies, that are continually getting out, going through peoples garbage, soiling the neighbors yards, attacking people going down the street including me and my horse, and the list goes on. Today I noticed that the owner was out front working in the yard while his dogs were out roaming the street so I went over (in the safety of my car) and asked if he could keep them in his yard. He started ranting and raving about how he had been deployed two times to fight for my freedom.... and my freedom of speech and being able to have guns, etc. (Holy cow... where did THAT come from?) I tried to shake his hand and thank him for his service and he refused and told me to take a hike. I told him I was just trying to save him from getting a ticket, or worse, if his dogs bit someone. I also mentioned that they had run after a poor old guy on a bike, and my experience while riding my horse. He acted as though just because he fought for my freedom, that he was allowed to break the law. He continued his screaming at me but I continued to be as pleasant as I could. His wife thanked me, and they closed the gate that had been left open as I left. But by the way he was acting I feared that he was going to retaliate. And perhaps this is why your neighbor went to the authorities. Then too... maybe when you kids said something to their kids the story got changed a bit when they told their parents and their version was cause for concern. If I were in your shoes I would try to clear the air with them instead of living in question and resentment. As far as MY neighbor.... next time I'll just call Animal Control.

Start a rumor your neighbor is a Witch! Then burn her at the stake. Perfect revenge!

Sorry about your dog!

Our situation is getting much worse. We got 2 citations in the mail from the SPCA. One for animal cruelty/neglect, the other for not providing proper shelter (my Golden Retriever chewed a hole in the side of his doghouse). These 2 fines total $430. Friggin unbelievable. And now we found out that they removed Lola's femur and sent it to Purdue University in Indiana to test a sample of her marrow. They are trying to say that we starved her to death. I am outraged! I have just about lost my cool now. How can I keep it together with all this crap I have to put up with? People say we should have just left her body with a vet or put her out with the trash. So by waiting for the ground to thaw so I could bury her, I have created this huge mess for myself and my family.

Since when did the SPCA get all of this authority? They can go in your yard and remove your property with no warrant? They can issue citations? This would be a perfect case for the ACLU but they won't take it since they aren't really concerned for our liberties but only for their liberal agenda. This is complete BS.
