Problem Opening the Hood

I have an '02 F-350 and am having a hell of a time opening the hood. When I pull the lever in the truck it feels like it is opening, but it doesn't. I have to push and pull on the hood and then re-pull the lever. I usually need to repeat this several times before I can get it to open.

I tried putting some grease on the hood latch thinking it was sticking from not being used frequently, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

a little oil on the latch will probly do more good than grease

If the oil does not work I am guessing the cable is stretched. I do not know if this is adjustable or not.

Any idea how hard it is to replace the cable?

I have not done that before but it looks more time consuming than difficult.

My 99 does the same thing if I'm not level side to side. I figured I was just binding up.

I would try to adjust the latch. you should be able to get the adjustment you need. Good luck.

Had the same problem. Look at the piece of the latch you grab with your hand and how it engages the mechanism. To operate properly it really should be pushed down, not to the left, although pushing it left tends to get the job done. Make sure it is not bent out toward the front of the truck as result of pushing it left to actuate. The piece is pretty easey to bend, and will not work well in either direction if bent. Bend back as rqd.
