Leaf Spring Difference, Flex-o-matic?

Does the flex-o-matic setup on the 71 f100 use longer leafs than a non flex setup?

Nope...the springs are 2 1/4" wide / 24" > > > eye bolt < < < 28" / These are the same specs for every F100 from 1957 thru 1972.

The same springs are used with/without Flex-O-Matic.

What is different are the rear spring perches, shackles and the Flex-O-Matic's "compensator" that attaches to the rear of the rear springs.

thanks, thats what i thought but wanted to be sure. DJM told me my springs werent stock and that my ride height wasnt stock and that could be causing my issues with their shackle/hanger drop stuff(doubtful) but this truck still had the stock bias plys on it when my cousin bought it so i know it was all orig since he was the second owner.

The main leaf has a stamped Ford ID number on it near the eye bolt.

If you can find it, post what it is, I'll tell you what springs you have and their load rate.

hey number,

How beffy can you make the flexomatic springs before running into problems? My springs will need a rebuild and I do trust the guys at the spring shop but I also like to be imformed.

You want to know how thick the spring leafs are?

I need the ID number off the main leaf before I can tell you.

Ok my bad for not being clear. I would like to either install a taller spring pack with more leafs (1 or 2) using stock specs or Install a spring pack with thicker not wider springs to handle more load. I think my latter idea will make her ride like a buck board but its just a thought.

I will get the #'s if I can read them tomorrow

Number

I need to get the wire wheel to read the #'s. I have one more question (for now) I have been reading in other posts about overload springs on the flexomatic suspension. Are these overloads like the ones on my 03 f350 or are they something special for this spring setup? Installing a set of overloads for my application would make my life so much easier.

I have a need to revive this thread... What's the difference, or benefit of Flex-o-Matic over the standard setup? I've had my 69 for several years and only noticed a few days ago the rearward shackles are a three piece setup that looks very strange to me. Are these for the purposes of overloading or what?

Flex-O-Matic and non Flex-O-Matic springs are NOT the same. Flex-O springs are longer. I can get a pic to differentiate the two...

Please do, but I'm wondering how they'd be different. Hell, the 69 F100 has the same length springs as my 78 F250. I'll have to take a photo of the rearward spring mount on the F100. It's three pieces in a rather odd setup considering the two piece on the F250.

Just an FYI the springs are identical with or without, most non flex have the overload spring on top
