LED brake lights

I am Looking for LED tail lights that look like recons but are not. 200$ are too much for tail lights. I have found them before for like 100 bucks I think but that was on my old computer and dont have the site saved anymore. I am also looking for the LED 3rd brake light also.

If you guys know any sites that sell them at a decent price can you post the site or if you have pics of yours you want to post so I can see them that will be great. Thanks guys!

Just be careful with the cheapy ones. I was on chat the other night with a guy that put some LED's on his truck. Apparently they didn't come with built in resistors. The result was the lights worked slow (slow blinker, slow to turn on, etc), and on top of that, his torque converter would no longer lockup like it was supposed to after shifting into 3rd. He put the stock lights back in and it worked fine.

Yeah, I found out the hard way - ya need different blinker fluid w/LED's... Who knew?

Personally I think most of the aftermarket tail lights don't look that great, (maybe OK on a Honda??) but if you like them be aware they tend to yellow and crack MUCH sooner than you'll like. (especially after that kind of investment! ) Consider they are all made as cheap as possible in the far-east and sold for 1000% profit - even on flea-bay... Generally speaking, the 'cheap' ones are just that.

My experience is only with Recon clear cab lites and front turns, but both are junk after just 2 yrs. The cab lites are cheap enough, I may buy another set, but the turns are a WASTE OF MONEY, IMHO (and mine were a gift!!). Now that they've been around awhile, its easier and easier to find some that look like crap.

Good luck! Post some pics in this thread of what ya end up with!

Not sure how tail lights could affect transmission??? but all ya usually need to do is swap flasher out for an electronic flasher as opposed to load-type flasher...

The 'resistors' trick the stock flasher into working by simulating load. I wanted LESS power drain, so I'm swapping all my lites to LED. I keep forgetting to grab the flasher, but my turns just blink FAST (unless trailer is hooked up, which is alot...)

my $.02:

EVERYTHING goes through and is controlled by the PCM/gem. the @%&#( ) PCM checks for burned out bulbs during its startup routine, so apparently if it finds stuff different, it has a hissy fit? glad I have a 6 speed.

you need load resistors for the turn signals..they have flashers to but that will change every thing in your truck..if you hook up to a trailer with out LED's... it gets messed up..with the load resistor..you put one behind each directional light ether on the front or on the rear..i put mine behind the tail lights..we just get too much slush and salt up here..they stay dry back there....this will take care of both ends of the truck and not do any thing to trailer..every bulb in my truck inside and out are LED except the 3rd brake light..

I'm not 100% sure either. However, I do know that the reverse tail lights trace right back to the transmission wiring harness. I found that out when searching for a spot to tap my backup camera into. So I would imagine that messing up that circuit would directly affect the transmission one way or another. In this particular case, the torque converter no longer locked up.

Strange, eh?
