Antifreeze

I have a leak at the thermostat housing. While I am replacing the thermostat and gasket,I thought I'd change the coolant. Wha tis the proper type of antifreeze to use in a 1998 4.0 SOHC Explorer.
Also the exhaust is black and sooty.Any suggestions on a remedy. There is only 85k on the vehicle
Thanks in advance.

Any ethylene glycol based coolant should be fine (Just about all brands are). As for the sooty exhaust, is the check engine light on? If so, find out what codes are being set. You may just need new plugs and wires.
