Odd steering problem

Im trying to figure out my odd steering problem. My 84 f250 with a d50 ttb front axle 4x4 will pull very hard to the left or right if AND ONLY IF I make a turn at above 15mph. If I make the turn very slow or gradually, it wont do it, and it wont pull whatsoever. When it starts acting up, it will act like it doesnt want to track straight, and if you turn the slightest bit to the left or right, it pulls to that direction. What even weirder is that if I let it sit for an hour or so, it stops doing it altogether until I make another hard turn. I jacked it up and tried to find anything loose, but the only play I have is in the wheel bearings and it is very slight. I tried to grease my ball joints up some, but I guess the zerks are clogged because they wont take any grease. What the hell is going on????

If you block the front wheels off the ground and turn the steering wheel back and forth, and it acts normal, and it only does it when it's on the ground moving, I would have a alignment shop look at it.

When you take it there, make sure you tell them your problem. A good shop will try to make you happy and road test it till they get the problem fixed.

You should replace the wheel bearings since they have play in them, even if it's just a little. Replacing them may even fix, or at least help out your problem. Nonetheless, you should replace them.

Greasing the ball joints will probably fix it. You might be able to unclog the zerks if you heat them up then try to grease them

Wheel bearings are supposed to have a little play in them when they are cold. IIRC about .004 of an inch. That will allow for expansion when they warm up and expand. If they are too tight when cold, once they warm up they could seize.

You might want to try removing the zerk fittings and cleaning them out if the heat doesn't work. They are threaded into the joints.

Also check your TTB bushings. If they are shot they could cause symptoms like yours.

My '85 F150 has a cracked frame at the pass drop-down bracket and it does the same thing when making a Left turn at speed. The steering wheel will be off-center and it pulls. I have never been able to stop and look at it to see whats going on, but I expect the drivers side wheel is pulled out. Original owner installed the lift kit (prolly in '85) and it's been broke forever; I thought about replacing the cross-member, but I found a F250 to replace it instead; the 150's road days are over...
