vacuum modulator question

I've had trouble in the past usually after I get off the freeway and shift out of overdrive, with the trans revving up to about 2500-3000 rpm then slamming into gear. Usually it goes back to normal within about five min. Also when this happens the OD light on the shifter usually blinks on and off until it goes back to normal. I was told that this could be due to my vacuum modulator being gummed up... is this the case or could it be something else?

The blinking OD light is flashing a code, so you need to see what code it is.

If you have the E4OD, there is no vacuum modulator, that tranny is completely computer controlled. Do what rattosh51 said and read the codes, that will tell you what is wrong with your tranny.
