I noted that your hood has the wings around the F100 of a deluxe cab. This is possible for a 53, but fairly rare. Deluxe cabs are more common on the 54. How about original color - under the hood, behind door panels. etc... is it all the same color? Also, your VIN will indicate the original paint scheme - this can be used to help judge. Post some pictures to your gallery - it might help to have a good look at it!
It's the original paint. I've done quit a bit of sanding and looking arround at different areas... it all matches. The blue matches the the paint code as well. And yes from what I can gather it is a deluxe: badge mount holes, trim around the rain gutter and side pop-out windows. BUt again you never no for sure, if its original.
And Brian, I was thinking about what you said, seeing a truck that looked like mine at Home Depot. Well, I've only owned it for little over a month now and the guy I bought it from lives in Temecula. Most likely it was my truck, and you were talking with the previous owner.
There are a couple of things that have thrown up a red flag: the engine is from a 56, steering column and shaft is from a 56 (2 inches shorter), and the VIN plate located in the glove box is in held in by screws, which I can tell has been taken off before.
The data tag is held on by screws from the factory. It's not uncommon to remove them during paint and bodywork or if the glovebox door was replaced for any reason. Comparing the rear spring length might be the easiest thing if you can't find the VIN on the frame. Of course, you'd need to know what is the correct length for the 53-54 vs the 55-56 springs. Anybody?
Good Luck!
I thought I was going crazy.... I knew that I saw, and even touched your truck before -maybe two so simular to each other, so close could exist.
He was looking to put a y-block in it and the deal I struck with him was a running 239 recently pulled for the four wheels and tires. Deal still stands if your interested!
