Good morning
I have a problem with my 2000 X. It runs fine with the only problem being it will smoke out the tailpipe only when I decellerate. Its a fairly large plume. It seams to be intermeadiate-coming and going- and worse when warm.
MODs: turbo back 5" ex, open intake, edge tuner. It smokes on all tunes including stock
Ideas? It is sucking oil out of the PVC?? Out of the turbo?? Can it??
Stumpped! It wifeys rig and she wants it fixed and I don't want to go to the stealer ship!
How about just disconnecting the PCV system at the valve cover and see if that solves the problem? If it does, then you know you have a blockage somewhere in that system and you need to find it before you blow seals out of the engine. If it doesn't solve it, then I am not much help to you. It would seem that it could be a turbo problem though.
Thanks for the replys
It doesn't matter what tune--stock or high Hp. I checked for eccess blowby by removeing the oil filler cap. very little. some one said it could be seals in the turbo??
Any thoughts?
It is possible for the turbo to be leaking oil. Is there oil in the tail pipe? You should be seeing the smoke while accelerating. What color is the smoke.
Thaks again
I now have oil coming out the tail pipe and I will check the inter cooler pipes to see evedence of oil.
how difficult is it to reseal the turbo??
Can I do it? I'm fairly adept at motors and I'm sure I can remove it.
or should I get a newly rebuilt unit since mine has 160K on it??
Thanks
Shawn
If its engine oil then your dip stick should read low. What you need to do if you have oil in the air/cooler is remove the air/air and flush it out. Diesel engine can run on oil too! There are good supply of vendors here who can help you out with the turbo parts or complete turbo.
Easy way to verify if the turbo is shot is to remove the intake boot and move the shaft.
It should have almost no movement at all side to side and none in and out.
