How hard is it to shave the door handles off a 1968 F-100 truck. Do guys think it would look good. Also, I am thinking of leaving all the chrome and emblems off and filling the holes in. And in it's place have someone airbrush the letters and emblems on where they go. All opinions are appreciated... spikemania(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
As the owner of a '68, all I can say is that I prefer the appearance of the truck as it came from the factory. Hope to restore mine to cosmetically new some day. Just my 2c worth.
Actually I think that would look great. If done right, it would be a real clean look. Street Rodder just showed a car that had EVERYTHING shaved lights covered, handles, crome, everything and it looked very clean.
YEAH,too cool.If the bodywork is done right,it should look great.I see alot of these old trucks that look"factory"and I'd like to see alot more real radical.Good Luck.
AHH! Shaved door handles! These are great for a custom look. I recommend you contact DAKOTA DIGITAL. They have everything you need to make the conversion including the Actuators, and the Remote push button rceiver and controls. I have intalled the set up on many street rods and a few pickups as well as my 65' Mustang.
I would have to agree, however that shaved handles on a daily driver are a pain in the butt. You do not realize how handy handles are. Everytime you get in the truck you have to reach in your pocket for the remote! It does not sound like a hassle, but it is. You go to the gas Station, get out, pump your gas and realize you left your wallet in the truck, reach in your pocket and hit the remote, reach in, get the wallet, and close the door; girlfriend is back from the bathroom, back in the pocket for the remote. Close the door, oops! girlfriend did not quite get the door closed (option, shove on new body work to close door or back to pocket) so Your back in the pocket for the remote! Go inside, pay for gas, and then back to truck and digging for remote! Yes this may be a silly scenerio, but i won't even tell you about the car wash!!! I had a buddy who i did a little Blazer for with shaved handles. After two years he brought the truck back and had me put the handles back on.
Shaved handles are very very cool, but can be a pain. Keep in mind that if you do go with shaved handles to put emergency hidden releases on the truck. If you get out, with the windows up, and the battery goes dead, or the remote goes on the fritz, you need a manual release to get in. Good luck and have fun! FOMOGO
