Amp

For those of you who have installed an amp in your truck...where did you put it. I have a Crew Cab so I was thinking of mounting it behind the rear seat. I am also going to install a Satalite Radio hard wired to my deck, I have a DNX 5120...thanks Petes7.3 I just wanted to get some ideas before I rip the dash out for the last time...hopefully.

Threw mine under the rear seat. I can't fit a toolbox in my bed so I needed all the space I could get so behind the seat wasn't an option for me.

hey sarge I threw mine under rear seat as well. I built a custom sub box that took up all the room behind the seat. Are you talking about the serious radio ready thing or are you buying the external setup. If it is external the cig adpater is also a voltage reducer. I think it drop it too like 5 or something. Anyways I used that took the cig part apart and tapped the wires for my hard wire so that I still had the reducer in there.

I put mine under the seat as well....but i wish i would've mounted it on the rear of the cab. Under the seat its near impossible to adjust gain etc. I also built a custom sub box for mine but like a dumb @#$^ I didnt account for the depth of the sub outside of the box and the grill that i put over it and i couldnt close the backseat with the sub behind the seat lol so i'll have to take two and make the next one about 3/4" less in depth (it's currently taking up leg room for the middle seat in the back but since i dont ride back there its ok with me for now )

I have the 5120. The xm adaptor is in the dash and they satelite antenna was routed around the driver side dash and mounted forward on the dash. Picks up signal just fine. Will have to pull the dash off though.

I am thinking I am going to mount it to the back of the cab as well. I never had a crew cab truck so I always put it under the passenger seat. I am not sure what to do with all the space I have now LOL. I also have the DNX 5120 and I will mount the sirius unit to the back wall also. I have plenty of room in the bed and I want to keep the install as clean as possible so I guess thats what I will do. I dont plan on a sub.

How Hard is it to remove the rear seats?

Rear seat removal is a snap just it uses the same fitting that takes off your seat belts (not sure what its called). Just make sure to run the wires under the carpet and door floor panelit makes it look sharp

to remove the back seat you have to remove the trey (if you have one) I think it takes a t35 or t40 torques. Then its just 6 nuts (17mm I beleave it was) that's it pull the seat out and you are good to go

Exactly what I did, I custom made 2 boxes with (2) 12" subs behind the left backseat. Yes the seat will not fold down, but who cares. I mounted the (1200 watt MTX) amp behind the right back seat for easy gain adjustments, and access to the jack. I am running the stock in dash, I adapted the factory rear speakers to pull signal to the amp. I also ran the switching signal wire (blue) to the fuse block. I recommend after market tweeters to help with the sound quality, stock speakers are just fine for the mids.
Be sure to purchase a quality torque socket I stripped out a few cheap ones removing the tray under the seat.

Yes I have the factory tray that folds out. I already upgraded the speakers, I have Infinities in the rear and Polks up front. This will be a big project for me as I am very ****...plus it will give me a chance to clean up the truck really well with the back seat out.

I am not looking for competion sound just something to compliment the speakers and make the DNX 5120 sound better.

I have a 05 Crew Cab and also put it under the rear seat, screwed to the floor, drivers side. I removed the fold out metal floor panel that was on the truck. This worked great for me.

Ok,

Phase 1 is complete. I pulld the dash all apart, installed the new Sirius unit, installed and ran the RCA cables for the amp, Installed and ran the remote wire for the amp, put all the wire in loom, removed the rear seat, that thing is heavy, and mounted the amp to the back wall.

I was so disappointed with the dirt on the floor beneath the pull out tray that I forgot to check to see if the amp would fit...doh!!!

I mounted it between the drivers side and middle child seat anchor...so for those of you who have done this will the seat still fit and be useable, not folded down.

If it doesnt then I will move the amp to the passenger side under the seat, but I do use the pull out tray for the pup when he rides with me.

I will post some pics. tomarrow some time of the progress.

Phase 2 will be running the power, ground, and speaker wires.

Like I said I am a little nervouse about the rear seat fitting back in there and not being able to be folded up normally. If anyone has done this please tell me there is enough room between the amp and the back seat before I wrestle that SOB back in there.

A part of me says I should have played it safe with mounthing it on the floor. But I think this was a cleaner install. I also need to get some new rear speakers for the truck...the Infinitoes I bought a while ago, 5 years, sound like crap...they always have.

Anyway any input on the seat would be great.

Looks like a clean install....If you are installing speakers i'd do those first before you put the seat back in....it will make life easier....Your seat should fold back up no problem with that amp there(assuming you didnt mount it to high up) :-/
