My 09 screw, Lariat has a problem with the 7 pin harness. The 7 pins, I believe, are made up of, running lights, left, right, back up, brakes and a 12 volt supply to charge the break away battery as well as a ground. Everything on mine works except the 12 V supply. I've tested the coupler with a simulator that plugs into the receptical and the 12v fails to light up. Tried with both the truck off and running. When I test a 06 F150, everything works as expected. Anyone have any ideas? I believe the fuses are OK, but not positive what one would be controling the 12v supply. Will be taking it in for the problem but am hoping to have an idea before doing that so I can argue if they claim all is normal. Thanks all.
I also have question about my 7 pin harness. I have trailer internal lighting and have no power to these lights inside and cant figure out what im doing wrong. I used this site to make sure i was testing the right connections. Dont know if it's any help to your issue.
Clean the factory side. Mine had some sort of grease on it (not conductive grease) after I cleaned and applied conductive grease everything worked fine. Chris
Bsimmer3000. That is my problem also. Internal lights don't work and I assume the battery for the break-away switch is not charging either. I'll try cleaning contacts and see if that helps.
I was told by the trailer people that they can fit some kind of harness that gives you the aux power. He said it's about $20 and take 10-20 mins. But i would have thought this come working should it not?
See if there is a 30amp fuse in position 21 and relay in position 9 of the battery junction box under the hood.
The fuse will be hot all the time and the relay is powered during start/run only.

I just remembered that i had a pack with a harness, fuse and relay and i found where i put it. Put the relay and fuse in the slots as you said and my trailer lights work perfect.

Oh thats what that stuff was for that they could not tell me what it was for when I bought my truck. Why would it not come installed????
or they hope you lose it and have to come back and buy another one ...just like that funnie plastic funnel the dealer didn't know what it was for ...did a little reading it for filling gas with a gas can

A little old, but I figured its better to revive this thread than start another one!
I had the bag of trailer-related wiring in my glove box, too. From an earlier post I thought it was only necessary for installation of an aftermarket brake controller. But I just plugged my relay and fuse into positions 9 and 21 as mentioned above.
Strange that these weren't already installed. I assume that without the 30 amp fuse, the power lead probably wasn't charging my trailer batteries, either.

On delivery the salesman did a great job of showing off every detail,
(I thought the presentation was a bit of overkill...)
including "that funnie plastic funnel" to the point when he was showing the wife how & when to use it he scratched the paint with his fingernail...He felt horrible, the dealership buffed it out on it's first service,
now it's just a funny story
Oh and thanx guyz for the tip on that wiring harness that came with the truck (he didn't mention that)
I know this is an older thread but it was the answer I needed. I bought my 09 screw used and did not get the bag-o-parts for the trailer lights to work. Anyone know the part # of the bag. Is the relay and fuse the same as the others in the power distribution box? How many amps is the fuse? Thanks. Dan
Hotrod,
I'll have to look at the parts bag next time Im at my truck and post the number for you.
Does any one know if I can install the fuse and relay now so I won't lose it even if I don't plan to tow for some time? Or will I just burn up something electronically by having it installed and not using it.
