Guy's I used the search feature really. But didn't find anything refrenceing the following
Crawling under My 2000 Excursion 4x4 I noted what looks like lifting blocks in the rear, but unsure about the front, appears the shocks are doing the job. So my intention is to lower the Excursion to the factory height of a 4x2, maybe 2" inches lower..then adding a air over leaf system to give me back the 4x4 height when needed. If i'm right about the rear I think I can handle it. The Front that's different story.
With any lowering on the front you will be riding the bump stops, if not already. The rear stock should have about a 2" block. That is why most replace with F250 springs to get that ride back. Like I just did.
First off thanks for taking the time to reply. I understand about the bump stops those will be shortend if not removed. In regards to the 250 springs is that all around, front or rear. I have think I recall someone mentioning that method to lift, im trying to lower, clearification would be greatly appreciated.
Yep the 250 springs are used to higher. What motor do you have?
Going to the stock v-8 springs will give you a little lowering on psd about .66 and v-10 about .25
I know some have lowered their X's but don't recall how long ago those posts were.
I have some used and sagging front springs I will give you, That will put your front end sitting just on the bump stops. take the block out of the rear and you will lower the rear too.
Thanx for the overwhelming responses guys. wallz I looked at the links, unfortunantly they didn't help..They did however point out lowering X's is not very popular. What I need is info of hardware, or modification needed to lower the front. Wylecoyote, your response seems to point me in the right direction. If you would let me know how and whats most convient for me to take those off your hands. It seems the springs are the ticket. Since I will have airbags I intend on shortening the bump stops all together. Well as I proceed i'll ensure to document and photograph to help future lads with high ambitions such as myself.
Not sure if this is even possible, but couldn't you do an over/under swap of the front springs? Might need a different spring set with a positive arch but just a thought.
you could do a reverse spring over lift/ drop... this would put the axle on top of the springs instead of under it.... a common way to lift Jeeps... with the seat perch you would get obout 4 inches of drop. so add springs that give u 2 inches of lift over stock springs and you will end up with a 2 inch drop
Yeahhhh, I think that would be perfect actually. But now would I need to flip the springs since the bottom springs are shorter and typically are pinned between the axle and the weight of the vehicle?
Not sure I understand your question. you just need to buy spring perches from a 4x4 shop and weld them onto the bottom of the axle. they need to be parallel with the existing perches as it will affect your caster angle for the alignment. then the U bolts and mounting plate get inverted and reinstalled with axle on top of the spring
gixerman, did you check out Kelderman's site? They already do what you are looking to do. maybe you can just copy them? They cut the bottom spring on the front to reduce ride height and capacity and allow the bag to "make up" for it. This also allows for ride height adjustment.
Monsta I did check out the site. Looks likt they carry an erray of air suspension kits for lift and leveling, but nothing to lower..Southpaw's technique is the one im going with, but thanx none the less.
To find the amount of lowering u get you will have to measure the diameter of the axle tube plus the thickness of the new spring perch welded onto the axle.... then figure out what springs you need from there to get desired lift/ lowering .. will prob need to cut the bump stop down or remove and go with a polyurathane one that is thinner

I actually looked thru their brochure, and on pg 22/23 lo and behold, the have a picture of a lowered excursion. Fine they don't show any more info on it, but a quick email would I'm sure get you the answers you need.
