no smoke comes out now, and fuel does flow into the fuel bowl. i dont know how fast is it supposed to flow but it does fill it up fine without the filter. The bowl does seem bit dirty, no deposits but walls and element. How can i get it cleaned?, a rag and brake cleaner?
You can clean the bowl, just keep 2 things in mind. The drain valve has o-rings in there that may not react too kindly to brake cleaner. They're cheap enough to replace, but watch for a drip if you use the brake cleaner. Also there is a little wire element at the bottom of the bowl that is fragile. If you break the connection on that wire (fuel bowl heater) it will blow a fuse that also powers the PCM so the truck won't start. Also make sure to flush the bowl with fuel to remove any residue before you stick the filter back in.
Try leaving the filter in the bowl, turning the key on, and opening the drain valve. Do you get a strong steady flow of fuel, or just fuel coming out of the drain? Any answers to the other questions I asked earlier?
The pump does hum when the key is in the On position, WTS and SES are working. They come on then off then they turn off like normal. Temps here are 70 at the moment. I can check the pressure tomorrow, were does gauge go to test it.?
There's a port on the back of the fuel bowl that you can plumb the gauge into, but I'd try the opening the drain valve with key on trick first. No smoke means the injectors are not firing. The fuel pressure gauge may still come in handy since the stall and your no start might not be related.
Have you been keeping the batteries on a charger while you try and figure this out? If the battery voltage drops too low (like from extended cranking) the IDM will not fire the injectors. Even moderate fuel pressure with 2600 psi ICP should be enough to cause smoke while cranking, so we need to make sure voltage is good right now.
The voltage thing does not explain the way the truck stalled, so we still have to figure that one out, but let's see if we can at least get it to start for now.
i'll check behind the bowl and attach a gauge there.. any recommendation as which gauge? Is it possible to leave the gauge in place to monitor the pressure over time?
How much fuel should come out the drain valve when the key is on? Also, is there anyway to use a house and channel that fuel to a container? i have a large container underneath but it doesnt catch all the fuel that spills down the truck.
I have kept the batteries charge with 12amp charger when i feel they are getting low, the truck used to start even with two bad batteries, and with the new high torque starter it was much easier to start.
Im leaning to think the engine is not being fed the fuel it needs, if injectors are not firing could be idm? but no codes?!?
