Help with TCI leaf spring

I'm STUCK! I was installing the TCI rear leaf spring kit on my '53 today, everything went easy enough on the front side. I got to the rear and laid out the "1 1/2" line in front of the front hole where the old shackle bracket was." It then tells me to "line up the top rear hole on the line". If I line up the top rear hole on the 1 1/2" line in front of the front hole there is no way the shackle will line up with the spring (yes we installed the spring on the front perch to see if it would). If we line up the front hole on the 1 1/2" line it is just like Jaye has his it concerns me that the rear lower hole would be right on the larger hole for the original spring perch. I tried calling TCI but I have to say they didn't help much. Do I install it the way it appears to be right and looks like how Jaye did his or do I just pound my head into the wall? If I go ahead and install it the way that looks right then the lower rear mounting hole is close to the larger original hole. Do I need to support the original hole or just go with it? Sorry to come to you guys with so many questions.......

same problem I had..

the front bracket FLAT side goes to the FRONT of the truck.

the back flat side goes to the REAR of the truck..
then it will line up

front is to the left

another post I made which references the doc for the rear leaf kit

Thanks Sam! Yes we have the shackles positioned correctly. We actually used your front picture just to verify the look to our measurements. The problem I am running into is the instruction to line the top rear hole on the new bracket to 1 1/2" in front of the front original hole.

I'm tryinhg to post a picture...Hope this works. Anyway, this is the picture to the rear shackle, you can see where the 1 1/2" line per the instructions lay out. The also instruct to place the top rear hole on that line.

We can place the top front hole on there and make our holes like this

What do you think?

Mark

Sorry for the fliped picture with the holes on it. I flipped it to help my wife visualize it in comparing a picture in Jaye's in gallery

no fair flipping the pic!.

anyhow, here is what mine looks like, note that I drilled the holes wrong the first time, after misreading the instructions..(having the front hanger on backwards really pushes everything back!..)..

the shackle should be near vertical with the tires off the ground..

1st is passenger side, second is drivers from inside the chassis, third is the passenger side, with the shackle in view
the original rivet hole is the shiny one on the inside chassis view, upper right (that is the front hole on the drivers side).

rear is to the left in all cases

after re-reading the TCI instructions, I guess I can't follow them.. I lined up the top FRONT hole on the line 1.5 inches forward of the original hole.
"Using a square, make a line 1-1/2" in front of the front hole of where the old shackle bracket was. Hold the bracket up to the rail and line-up the top rear hole on the line you just made.'

I have not installed the bolts on the bottom yet..

In your center picture look at what would be the bottom rear mounting hole for the new bracket...see how close that is to the larger hole, that was a major concern of mine. Thanks for your help!

She gets drilled tomorrow!!

Mark,
I didn't use TCI's measurements for the rear I was having the same problem you are having. I just placed it to where I would have some play in the dog-bone so they wouldn't be fully eatended, I don't remember the final measurements though. I went out to measure it however, its behind my fuel tank
