By the looks of it, it seems straight forward. But considering they recieve a cut steering shaft they do not list how to get the other end (attached to the steering wheel) out. So I'm looking for some advice. Is this rebuild as easy as they it is? And one section they mention welding a small bead, to hold a pin in place. Is this necessary? Beacuse I do not have a welder or do I even know how to weld. Beacuse if it is necessary, I might have to bite the bullet and take into a shop.
Is the kit you bought the same as the CPP kit? or did yours come with the proper pin for the roller? While their article is generally good, they are sanding and welding on the pin after the roller is in, bound to get grit and stuff into the roller. It seems like they couldn't get the proper Ford pin and are using something "close enough", that's why they have to cut it short and weld it.
I haven't had one of these apart, but Ford generally stakes their pins to hold them in. I can't believe Ford would cut it to length, grind it smooth, and weld it on the production line. AFAIK, they didn't sell the sector except as a complete assembly, so the stock pin isn't available. You might find an NOS one at Joblot or similar, that would eliminate the whole welding issue.
BTW, to answer your other question, you remove the steering wheel, column shifter if so equipped, the plates at the floorboard, remove the pitman arm, and pull it all out the bottom.
