6637 Issues..

Ive had the 6637 for over a year now and I change it out every few months. I changed it a few days ago and today found the filter had fallen off. My best guess is that I have been driving at least 2 days with no filter. How worried should I be? What can I do to help prevent any permanent damage? Anything?

Wow man what size pipe did you have in there? You might be alright as long as you didn't drive in any dusty conditions. I have to say that is the first time I heard about that.

Pull your intake tubing and check the fins on your turbo. Clean inside of tubing, do CCV mod, re-install, and make sure the filter is clamped to 4" OD tubing. The neck of the filter on mine is very dense rubber, I had to get the hose clamp tight! Best of luck

I have looked everywhere and there is NO tube of any kind that I can find that fits inside the filter. Where the hell do you guys find any such thing. Also, the neck of the filter is tapered, a hose clamp would just slide right off.

Mine worked with 4" exhaust tubing, you have the correct filter right? Pictures might help a little.

I used a worm hose clamp and cranked it down with my electric drill.

I am making a 6637 kit that will have the tubing you need. I could do you a favor and just send you the tubing for my cost if that will help you out. Black powder coated ok?

nice offer Clay...for now untill you get that pipe..scuff down both ends of the PVC with sand paper...this will give the filter and intake tube something to grip onto when you tighten the clamp..

I went to a Covington Diesel shop and bought a 30 degree 4" dia. made buy Walker, had to cut it a bit, but it fit perfect with no strain on intake hose for my early 99 Walker Part # 41615. Fits perfect .

If you use PVC, you can't use a piece of pipe. You need a 3" Coupler, which has a 4" O.D. that will fit inside the filter and the intake tube.

I used a 22 degree elbow PVC coupler.

x2 on that. Most people use the PVC coupler or a short piece of 4" exhaust pipe. A few have said they just put it on the end of the intake tube, but I don't see how, my diameter is about the same on both. When I bought my filter at NAPA (I know, I know, but I needed it that day, next time will be fleetfilter.com), their ricer section had a 4" dia, 4" long polished aluminum piece of intake piping that I bought. Sure, at $12 it is a lot more expensive than a lot of people paid for their connectors, but it is aluminum, polished (looks nice) and all edges are machined and rounded so I don't tear anything. I also bought a screw-type hose clamp for the filter end and put it all together. I had to cut up the air box part of the tray to fit the filter without crushing it with the hood, and had to rotate the intake tube a little (elbow up) to allow it to fit with minimal stress on the assembly. I was initially worried about the filter popping off (I do a lot of off-roading) with no support at the filter base, but I've had it for 6 months and had no problems whatsoever. One of these days I'll fashion a brace for the intake for my peace of mind, but so far it's holding out great.

Just my .02

Just a heads up for next time, I can get you a powder coated piece shipped for $7-$11 depending where you live
