I made a thread earlier about a tick/knock coming from the driver side head of the engine. I figured it was an injector and sent the front 2 in to a shop that tests them and sure enough 1 was bad. They offered me a replacement and I took it. Without even thinking about it I installed the new injector and the old one that was ok. Well now I went from having a failing injector to having 1 that doesnt fire period. I pulled the valve cover and got some numbers from them. So my question is, Is there a universal part number for injectors or are the part number manufacturer specific? Because my old injectors have a different number than my new one.
OEM injector # AA 1816187C3
18704879858
Replacement # AP 63800 AA
80040550528
Not sure but I think the the replacement and the OEM are basically the same injector. If either, the OEM or the replacement are not functioning then you probably have an electrical problem.
Have you checked the plug that plugs into the outside of the UVCG, then the UVCG harness for burned/missing contacts? Also do an ohm check on the harness as well.
Another way to check is to swap two (2) injectors and if the swapped injector fails to operate in the same cylinder then the problem is not the injector.
Just out of curiosity, what made you select the two (2) that you sent in, why not all four (4) on the driver's' side?
I did check all of the connector pins and they all appeared fine but I may go back and check again. I didn't believe it to be electrical because the problem worsened with the new injector vs. the old failing one. I stethoscoped the head while it was running and determined it was coming from one of the front two cylinders. Could have been rockers or injectors but it was definitely up top. After removing and inspecting all of the rockers and pushrods I verified that wasn't the issue. So I then removed the injectors and sent them to a shop that could test them.
