ccv question...

Hey guy's I recently did the crank case vent mod...I just ran some heater hose up made a high point and dropped it below the truck and put a tiny crank case vent filter on it.....My question is with this filter on it...and being under the truck could this filter become wet and prevent the crank case from breathing, or in cold weather become frozen...it snowed and rained heavy here the other day after driving for a while on highway i got out and took a look under the truck and the filter seemed dry...just black where oil has been collecting..but..is a filter really neccessary at the end of my hose..?....some people say that under deacceleration that the crank case can actually suck air......but before this truck i had a cummins and they have been vented to atmosphere for yrs...with nothing on the hose no filter nothing just open hose.....so what experience have you guy's had with this???...Should i keep the filter on or take it off and leave the hose upen at the end???

I can't give an answer......just interested in the replies. I was thinking about this after our recent snow storm. I have done exactly the same thing. I just attached a filtered breather element at the end and let it hang from inside my trans mount.

i dont see how it could possibly create a vacuum inside the valve cover on deceleration.i'm gonna vent mine to atmosphere when i do it. as long as you left the little filter and housing on the valve cover when you did the mod that should be plenty of filteration for it.

You don't need a filter on it after dropping it down that far, nothing will get up in there.

the engine will not make a vacuum in the engine if you simply reroute the pipe to say the rear of your truck along the frame rail. during deceleration with say the tow haul mode on the engines rpm are up the turbo vanes are open i believe and the engine still has 18:1 compression in the engine itself so there is no issue with this at all.
