I have a 2000 F250SD 7.3 that when put in park, doesn't always want to start in Park. when you turn the key, the dash lights up as usual, but when you go to start, there is nothing? No clicks, no noise, Just nothing.
If that is the case, I just put the truck in Neutral, and it starts right up.
Any suggestions?
Another thing that is shift lever concern, is the lever seems really sloppy, are there bushings that I can replace to take care of the slop?
I think I posted this in the F-150 sections, but does anyone know for sure if a battery cable from a 2003 will fit my truck? my inline battery terminal block is bad and through rigging it works, but not that great. The part numbers on the cables are different, but they sure look the same.
i haven't had a shifter apart, but i would bet that if you fix the slop it will begin starting again. as far as the battery cable goes, take it off and go to a welding shop and ask for a piece off cable the same length but 2 sizes bigger. they should be able to supply you with solder on ends, if not anyone who repairs semi trucks will stock the cable ends. as long as the cable is long enough to reach the only concern is that it is large enough to carry the amperage, if you have another diesel the cable should be good, but not off a gasser
You need to remove the upper and lower shround from the steering column aot inspect the shift tube and lever. You may have a fractured shift tube. I believe that there are no adjustments for cable under the truck. Dan.
like y2k said, take off the upper and lower plastic piece of the steering column. THEN, follow the shift lever to its end till it connects to a "thin" metal cable.
the other end of that cable attaches to a bracket. tighten that bracket with an allen wrench or tourqe wrench, whatever you got.
that fixed my sloppyness and my no start.
