Any VW diesel owners out there?

I got an 80 VW rabbit pickup diesel. Its got the 1.6 TD. I have only seen a hand full of them around South Dakota. So does anyone out there have an VW Diesel on FTE?

Not now, but I used to have a diesel Rabbit, a 78. It was a great little car.

It had the "economy package" that shut the motor down at when sitting still and restarted it when you slightly lifted the clutch.

I was curious whether you guys had one and if it was modified. My 80 seems to only 1.6 turbo in my area. We finally got it running in my diesel class after it has been sitting for 1 1/2 year . It needs alot of work. None of the gauges work, I'm pretty sure the tank is filled with hum bugs, and glow plugs are shot. This pickup will get me all of my assignments needed done for my class.

I had a gal that worked for me as a merchandiser covering a large territory calling on grocery stores. I don't know that there was ever a car built better suited to do that job. It was the automotive version of the energizer bunny. She had the rabbit...don't know that I've seen a truck.

Those little Rabbit pickups were pretty cool. I always wanted one with a diesel. The rust destroyed most of them in this area a long time ago, though.

When I was a student at Ohio Diesel Tech. back in 1982, we had classes on VW diesel and the infamous Olds 5.7 Diesel. They had a fleet of both for training purposes.

Well i got it running like a champ now! A learned alot from tuning it in class. The Bosh VE pump is weirdest pump i have yet to work on so far. Learning to time the pump took me a whole day itself because i had do all my research off the internet. another thing is that I dont know what it has for engine now because it has a custom turbo set up on it.

I had to add an electic fuel pump to help out the Bosh pump because the fuel pump inside of it was not pulling in enough fuel. I found out I have a custom tank on it and it holds about 30 gallons and after my road trip back home and back i got over 50 mpg. So no matter what i will get over 1,000 miles out of 1 tank of fuel.

Hey Ford! Wake up and read this!!

I know the 5.7 Olds tarnished the American public on diesels 30 years ago, but...

My bro has a bunny truck with the diesel in it. It's currently in his shop awaiting a swap for a new TDI crate engine. That thing should scream with the TDI in it.
