Engine Size
I towed a 80's Model truck in today, the new owner says it is a 460. It has a 2 barrel carb on it, ands the fireing order on the intake is the same as a 460. I thought all 460's were 4 barrell!! The guy said the engine had been changed, he thought it might also be a 524 or something from a railroad truck! I need to find out what it is, so I can get the plug wires back onit correctly!!

Wouldn't be a 534, those were 4v only, too big for the truck, would have had that shoe-horned look...
460s were 4v. Some 429s had 2v, so it is possible for a 2v manifold to end up on a 460, or a 429 2v to be swapped in where a 460 was. Is this a big truck, like an F 650? The other engine this size is the 370. The 370 & 429 "Lima" truck engines were used in mediums like the F650. A 370 might have a 2v.
351m for sure, 400 maybe had 2v. These are tall block engines and look pretty big. but were F 350 max.
As for the fireing order, the one on the manifold is it. Cylinder numbers start on the passenger side front and go straight back. 1-4 the passenger side, 5-8 front to rear on the driver side. The only Ford that might have one order on the manifold but another inside would be 289/302 maybe 351, as the cams can interchange and there are two orders possible.
As for more engine ID, you can find pictures on line.
