I just went and test drove a 91 f250 7.3 non turbo with the E4OD. The transmission takes 5 seconds to engage reverse if left at idle, if I rev it up the reverse comes in sooner. The transmission the owner says was rebuilt 8000 kms ago. The forward gears shift good except for between 3rd and 4th it will rev to 2500-2800 before it shifts or I let off the throttle. The rear end also has a growling noise until it warms up then its quiet. Thanks.
ABS is for brakes........ however if there is power being applied to the brake system somehow the torque converter will not lock. Have you checked the trans fluid level.... the stick should say how on it.... color and smell are good indicators of trouble.
This is only a WAG.... if the old filter seal was left in the trans body when the trans filter was replaced..... there is a possibility the fluid is not being picked up until at a higher RPM.
Sound like the truck is a can of worms...... but if the engine runs good and most other things are in good condition........ price asked and paid would be significantly different.
We here have the time to help should you buy it, but you need the time, $$, and perseverance to fix it.
PM me where your located and I can help with info if you purchase it.
the issues you describe would indicate internal problems with the trans
a 2-3 second reverse engagement is normal if it really has a 5 second delay there is a problem
The transmission in reverse takes like 3-4 seconds since i counted but i have to rev it up for it to move the truck. Once Ive done that then it shudders as the truck starts moving. The trans probably needs to be looked at. Thank you.
