Sooooo that's what turbo flutter sounds like!!!
Thanks Jody, I'm one of "them" now. I don't know how you crazy buggers drive these rigs with a 120, let alone a 140 tune. I got an 80 econo (yea, there is no econo in this tune) and I need to relearn to drive this thing. Went to the VFW (stimulating the economy, one beer at a time) and my wife drove home, even she was impressed. Perma-grin is an understatement. If you haven't done a DP or TW tune yet, your missing out! Thats all I have to say about that....
Go find a WW or ATS housing and the flutter will be fixed. LOL... I remember when I first got my DP. After getting everything installed & buttoned back up, I fired it up, let it warm up a bit, then revved it a little on 80E. Nice puffs of black smoke. COOL!!
Then I put it in gear, and eased out of the parking lot of the hotel I was staying in at the time, got to the light, and when it turned green, I nearly rear-ended the car in front of me when I stepped on the pedal!! LMAO!! Gotta love it!! I then commenced to wearing out a ricer, and two racing Expys that night. These trucks are AMAZING when tuned. Those of you on the fence, go ahead and jump on over to the dark side -- you won't regret it!!
I was pulling a snowmobile trailer with 2 snowmobiles on it last weekend... about 2k lbs or so and at 20 psi I was fluttering in 80 eco... never done that before. Is this surge? Mine is an early 99... the "no surge stock turbo"

This is intresting Chase. I wonder if the early 99 turbo can surge? You do have a smaller turbo, so I wonder if the WW will surge.
It be surging I'm afraid. Chase no happy. I can't afford to blow/replace a turbo right now. I might have to put the DP back to stock.
Yeah right
. You sure got me on this one. I was just looking at your post and wondering what to say. Then I finally saw the long space, went down a little more and WHAM.
Glad I could provide some amusement today Rick. Unfortunately I'm not lying about the turbo surge- haven't noticed it w/o a load yet but I'm afraid come summer when I start hauling horse trailers, firewood, etc it's gonna be a big problem.
Chase, mine only happened because, for some reason, I couldn't take my foot off the narrow peddle. Actually when I drive normally there isn't a problem, however I haven't towed anything, yet.
Still am amazed that these chips do what they do for torgue and HP. Sent a big thanks over to Jody, job well done. And thanks to this site for the great write-up on the install.
OH yeah... As you have found out, they can and will surge!! Pretty much any turbo will given the right conditions. Not sure what you can do with the early, though. Down-shift and power through it, I guess....

Or keep 'er pinned until it blows and tell the wifey "now I NEED that new turbo, I don't just WANT it anymore"
