I'm trying to change my door actuator but all the ones i see only go to a 91 model. I'm trying to find out will a 93 use the same actuator or are they different? Or where did any of you get yours from. I see a set on ebay but it stops at a 91.
Best bet is to hit the junkyard, It lets you see the territory before you tear into yours. Door panels are very simple to remove on these trucks. Actuators are probably the same from 87-96, try a J-yard actuator before buying a new one off Ebay, or buy one off the FTE parts guys.
Any parts store should be able to get them. I know Dormann makes them.

I just ordered a pair from them along with a pair of window motors. Gonna do both doors up nice and replace all that 19 year old lazy stuff.

What I did was buy one of those kits on eBay that lets you add power locks to a car without them and I made a bracket so that one of those actuators would go in place of my OEM unit. Then I just wired it into my existing wiring. I had to make a rod also to connect it to the door latch. This way I got 4 actuators for what I paid for 1 at the junkyard which lasted only a year. That was like 8-10 years ago and the other 3 are still in the box so they hold up pretty well.
How can you tell if the ones from da junkyard is anygood
Just plug them into your harness to test, junkyard wont charge more than a few$ for a whole handful of actuators. In fact, when this happened to me I bought a used inst. cluster at the same time and they didnt even charge me for the actuators.
In '92, Ford changed to an all plastic construction with plastic gears and a small motor, like what you use to find in toys. Pre'92 lock motors are an all steel construction rotory motor.
I got an aftermarket (China made) lock motor for a '94 and it stripped out within a month.
The 2 different designs use a different electrical plug, so if you change to the older style, you would need to splice on a different plug.
So are the ones off ebay better or wores than the plastic kind u are talking about. And if I decide to get them off ebay i would only have to splice the wires?
If your truck is a '93, the plug ends are different. You would need to get the plug ends from a donor truck.
The one for your truck is this one. They are universal for most Fords of the '90s. More than likely, it's a China made unit. It might last, it might not. eBay Motors: 97 98 Ford Explorer Power Door Lock Actuator Front L/R (item 110352190609 end time Mar-17-09 17:43:04 PDT)
BTW, you have to reuse the bracket off your old lock motor. It just clips over 2 pins on the body. How do you plan on reattaching the lock motor to the door. It requires a heavy duty riveter with a 3/16" rivet.
The only way you are going to get a bolt and nut to work is to epoxy a bolt or nut into the swivel pad on the bracket. There is no way you can get into the spot to hold a nut in place. I've done it in the past by welding the nut in.
Still tryin to figure out this door actuator problem some please guide me in the right direction. What are my option on replacing them. How can i make aftermarket universal ones work, or is it possible.
