4x4 question

I read in the manual but just wanna be sure i got this right.....on my 07 I "think" i have automatic locking hubs.....I have a "lock" position and an "auto" position.... so if it is set at auto..then i dont have to touch get out and touch it just turn the 4wd switch on in the cab...and i know the procedure for 4 lo..tranny in nuetral....foot on brake blah blah lol.....my question is what is the lock feature for ...and am i correct in saying that when it is in lock...that the front drive shaft will be engaged at all times....???? Help me understand guys thanks!

You need the manually locking hubs do to the fact that your ESOF (Electric Switch on the Fly aka the 4wd switch on the dash) WILL fail. You will either lose your vacuum pump or will get an air leak somewhere. When this happens you'll have to have your hubs locked in order to use 4wd. When the hubs are locked I'm pretty sure your driveshaft is not engaged due to the fact that there is no power going to it. You'll see slightly lower mileage though. Leave them in auto and use them periodically to make sure they are still working.

6litrefan....you are correct. With the hub in the auto position you can shift in and out of 4X4 and the vacuum will engage the hubs. If you switch the lock out to "Lock" it DOES lock in the axles, along with that everything spins (axles, front drive shaft) but is not in FWD until you turn the switch on the dash to lock in the transfer case.

Hope this helps you understand the system better.

Thanks Toyman for setting them straight. On my rig if I shut it down the vacum will leak off. That ticks me off. I will be replacing with good Warns as soon As I can.
It is nice to just turn a **** though.
