Has anybody been able to get more HP by changing the exhaust and if you did what did you use. Some people say you can't inprove on the exhaust on a 2001 lightning but its hard for me to believe. Being a old BB Chevy man I have trouble with the way the truck sounds. I would like a little Rump Rump like you get from a good set of Flowmasters. Thanks
I live in California and smog laws are crazy here so other states could have a Lightnings with Flowmasters but the muffler under my 2001 Lightning looks like it should go on a Farmall Tractor. Also it is installed in such a way that it will be a major job to put flowmasters on it. Both exhaust come out the right side of the truck and theres not enough room to install the flowmasters and come out at the same place without restricting the flow. It will have to be ran to the rear of the truck to make it work right and I don't want to do this if I don't gain HP.
The exhaust on the Gen 2 Lightnings is a Ford piece, not Flowmasters. No one has seen much of a gain from changing the exhaust so the stock piece flows pretty well. However, I put a Bassani X-pipe and cat back and the sound improvement alone is well worth the money. I also love the fit and location of the 3" polished stainless tips.
Later!
