Computer Question #3

Okay soup fans.

I just got back to the computer from Michelle playing a game from the hard drive.

She said all she did was go to:
Start
Programs
Game

Yet, when I got back on-line everything that previously showed as read (as in the colour of the links had changed from blue to red) because they had been accessed all day had changed back to Blue (meaning Un-read).

Does anyone know what she might have done?
If it is any help.

She said the computer went wild making noises(speaker sounds) from the computer making changes.

So far that's all I noticed.
It just means I have to view a few threads, so I know where it starts again.

Computer Question #3

do you by chance have the comp set to do a disk cleanup automaticly?
this would set links to not used if the I-E cleanup was done as well. its not abad thing it frees up space and makes the comp run faster especialyif ran in conjuction with a defrag. I do both of these weakly do to the fack that I install & unistall a lot of programs once ever 3-6 months is adaquet (sp) for normal use. if it;s just the links i'd say it was a I-E cleanup (tool bar-tools-internet options-clear history) check your scheduald tasks to see if it's set to auto if so you can regulate it or turn it of. note the Internet Explorer is set at 30 days by default you can change this though.

hope this helps...

Computer Question #3

No this is different.
I deleted temp files & defraged yesterday.
Even if I did,
Usually when I come on FTE, it shows all the threads as being
accessed before.

This cleared all the access threads to make them look NOT accessed or Un-read.

It also cleared the cookie involved in my auto log in to my web site.
I had to re-enter my user name & passowrd.
We will see what I have to do next on here.

*grin*

Computer Question #3

well theres only 2 ways that i'm aware of to delete cookies iether from I-E or just flat out remove them from the file.
? are you running Windows 2000 or XP if so check the users acounts could be if you use it youre in a differtn login cookies are personal files in NT & XP. also if they were deleted from the file they might if your lucky be in the recycle bin. other than this i'm out of options but ill ask my instructor minana to see if he has a sujestion. one more idea do a file search for *.txt cookies are txt doc's see if any have your user name from sites that have passwords & logins then if they have been moved you can move them back.

Computer Question #3

it sounds to me like she was using the net and didn't want somebody to see where she had been, so she cleared the history files and deleted offline content under internet options tool. This would turn all of your links blue again.
otherwise I can't think of anything that would do it

Computer Question #3

Michelle was only at the computer for 3 minutes.
Not enough time for that.

Unless there is a Flash cookie removal( The way used to eat real ones) ,it wasn't a cookie throw, because all the cookies were still in the hard drive all 749 files of them.

This is something I've never seen before.
I'm thinking she *Right clicked* something accidently to make the computer go nuts for 10 seconds.

Computer Question #3

i may be off base here but sometimes it seems the server itself may become reset and cause this, because everything is refreshed. Or it could just be you lost a few fragments of some files when that weird thing happened.

Computer Question #3

I have noticed that about once a week (usually on Saturday)
all my FTE links turn back to blue. I figured it was due to Ken doing computer or web site maintenance.

Computer Question #3

Are you sure she was only on the computer that one time?

Also that the history files were untouched?

I've been getting mighty paranoid lately, and just heard Theo got hacked by someone and decided enough was enough...

There are some dedicated, government employed hackers out there that are determined to make the net suck for U.S. users. But I'm not convinced they're smart enough to be subtle yet...

Check your internet options tab under the tools heading.
you most probably have your system set to clear your history after 7 days, you can change that, its pretty straight forward once you are at the internet options screen.
