Disc Brake axles

Just wondering what donor vehicles would be good to look for to find a set of solid axles with disc brakes?? Just wondering what to look for in the salvage yards. Thanks

Little more info would be helpfull. You looking at 1/2 ton stuff or 1 ton gear?

Do you actually have to replace the entire axle, or is a disc brake conversion a better option?
Disc brake kits are pretty cheap now, so buying a complete axle might just be more money than it is worth.

I am leaning toward 1 ton stuff. I am planning on using a 351w, not sure about tranny (auto or manual). I am building a jeep for the sand dunes. I know this is a ford site. the only jeep parts are going to be the body and frame. LOL. Anyway, the motor will turn 5500-6000 rpm. Low powerband. I will make the tires spin with gearing. 4:1 t-case probably. I am going to be running 33" tall sand paddle tires. I do not know how much stress these will put on the axles. THey are also 15" wide. I am thinking 1 ton stuff would be better. 1/2 ton might hold up but 1 ton would be better. I need width for stability. I want dics brakes, converting may be my only choice. Thanks for any info

If you are using a full floating rear axle, the disc brake swap is as easy as it gets. Caliper brackets are cheap and all over the place. Then just knock the drumm off of the hub and install a rotor. Its really that simple. Bolt on kits are available, and not as expensive as one might think.

Check this thread out for converting a 10.25 sterling to disc brakes.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...sc-brakes.html

Finding an affordable OBS 1-ton might not be easy, but that would give you a Dana 60 for the a front axle and a 10.25 for the rear.

Where would I find a bolt on kit?? I would like to use a full floater just for the ability to limp home with broken axle and not have wheel fall off LOL. I had one on my farm, but I think a junker stole it. I'll have to check.
