chemical dip

been thinking of having a cab dipped prior to starting a resto. had heard from different sources that this isn't a great idea. need some opinions and experience on this matter. the shop is carolina chem strip. they tell me that they bake the shell and then place it in a caustic tank. the shell is then washed with a acid neutralizer.

chemical dip

There's been alot of discussion on this in prior posts, though I don't recall if it was in this forum or in the 1941 & Older forum.

We would have loved to have our '41 dipped, but we have more time than $'s so we're sticking to doing the sandblasting and metal prep ourselves. The only place anywhere near us is way up in North Florida somewhere and there was about a 3-6 month turnaround time. The major advantage to having it dipped is that it gets all of the rust from every nook & cranny. It's my understanding that when they are finished, it has the same protection on the metal as done in the factory. I've never heard anything bad about dipping, and we've been to many old car shows and talked to people that have had it done.

My opinion is that if you have the $'s, go for it.
