Okay I bought a 93 f150 5.0 E40D trans in it. I sold my my dodge dakota 4 cylinder for this truck i wanted something a lil bigger. Man was I in for a rude awaking, does this truck get bad gas mileage or it's something i'm doing wrong to da truck. It runs smooth. Please tell me its a mod i can do, To get better gas mileage.
What milage are you getting..?? It will never get the same as a 4 banger..The bigger the truck & 4x4...??? Good tune up ... Check codes....Alot of performance type mods will help fuel milage...Like the exhaust to start with..Make sure your air filter is clean.. check timming...coast down hills...Lew
It also doesn't help to have an 18 gallon tank like mine. No sooner your'e enjoyin the ride, your eyes get glued to the gasometer. I feel I'm lucky that's my only problem, there are other's out there with larger truck problems. I don't complain about mileage, I just enjoy the fact that it's movin me down the road.
Surely you will find at FTE the answer(s) you seek to help you out.
filled it up maybe did lil 120 miles before i had to refuel again, wasnt on empty maybe lil over 1/4. But i'm coming from a 4 cylinder dodge only reason i got the truck was for hauling. My dodge would pull it but it felt like i was pulling a tank behind.
I would get an acurate reading on your fuel milage first... Fill it up record milage..next time you fill up see how much gas it takes & how many miles you drove..Its a 93 duel tank im guessing..i would think you should get at least 200mi to a tank ?? so if you only get 120 you have a big problem...no chip will help that...Lew
Seriously, this thing weighs a ton compared to what you're used to.
There is no chip that is going to help you with an EECIV.
You need to pull the stored codes and see what's going on behind the scenes. fordfuelinjection.com has the proceedure.
Basic tune up stuff is needed when you buy one of these trucks, and even more so if it's been sitting. Cap, rotor, plugs and wires are a good start. Make sure the air filter is clean and replace if needed. Change the oil if it hasn't been done recently, and you should usually drop the transmission pan and change the filter/fluid.
These trucks will run forever if you take care of them, but they aren't going to be giving you much more than 14mpg with a light touch. Combined, my 2WD 5.0 averages 11-12, but I do a LOT of city driving.
Let us know the codes. Make sure your tires are aired up properly and we'll go from there.
