4 bolt conversion

got a ford 460 (DOVE-A 5) in the next couple paychecks she's getting bored .030 and stroked 4.500 (545 ci) she'll also be getting h-beam rods and flat top pistons. i haven't decided on heads yet. gonna be a trail vehicle, i plan on abusing the hell out of it. all that being said, what are your thoughts on the engine systems 4 bolt main caps? are they worth the squib? are they necessary?

They would be nice to have but probably not necessary in your case. I'd put the money in a nice set of heads.

This is just my personal thoughts on this subject. While I think that 4 bolts will undoubtedly be better than 2 I don't like the idea. I can't justify paying the $300-$400 to do that much extra machine work to a block that can be windowed, cracked, etc when you can buy a girdle for a $150 and move it to your next engine if something happens.

I've got those 4-bolt caps on my D0VE block. They are a nice piece but aren't made to fit the D0VE block. The caps have to be machined then installed on the block. After being installed onto the block it has to be line bored and honed. So it is quite expensive to do. I was able to do everything except the line bore and hone myself and it still cost me about $750 including the price of the caps.
For your usage the stock block should be plenty strong enough.
