While returning from Arizona for the 2nd year my 07 Motorhome started to lose power about 30 miles out of Boise. I was down to 25mph in 1st gear to climb 2 and 3 % grades. I made it to a dealer who checked the computer, no codes. Its top speed was 35 on the flats by then. The engine also developed a ticking sound (sounded like a lifter to me). Dealer drained the oil, had a small amount of glitters in the oil. They called and said the loss of power was because the cat converter was completely plugged. They pulled the pan but never told me what they found. They said when they disconnected the injector on number 10 cylinder the ticking (knock to them) went away. They are now in the process of installing a new long block in the motorhome. My question is what caused the cat converter to plug up? A bad rod wouldn't. Thanks for your input.
The dealer just called and said the motorhome is finished, going to pick it up tomorrow. Dealer said the mechanic felt that the cat converter came apart inside and clogged up causing exhaust gases to go back into the engine scoring the cylinders and causing piston slap in #10. He said all cylinders were scored, sound likely?
