Possible Radiator problem?

I have a 2006 with 54K on it. In the last couple of weeks two times when driving at about the same distance from my home the temp gage jumps to "HOT" and the "Light" comes on. About five seconds later it goes to normal and the light goes out? It was a little low on antifreeze so I added. I have not noticed it leaking. I thought maybe it was a thermostat. Any ideas?

Sounds like a sticking thermostat. If so, it's not going to get any better and may stick in the closed position which can cause you significant problems if it overheats. Which motor do you have? Either way, it's a pretty simple repair.

thermostate

be real careful when changing that thermostat, the intake is aluminum and the bolts are steel. Spray some liquid wrench or the like on the bolt heads when you get home from the store, let it cool down then be careful and try not to strip out the bolt hole. but if you do (like I did) no worries just drill and tap to bigger size. good luck
