94 Lighting Help

I have several issues I'm seeking help on...

I filled my truck up, put the switch on the front tank and drove til it
ran down to a 1/4 of a tank. I then switched it to the rear tank and
drove for several days and then noticed that it was down to a 1/4 of a
tank. I switched it back to the front and it showed full. I drove til it
was down to a 1/4 of a tank and then filled up. I did this a couple of
times and it kept doing the same thing. I then put the switch on the
rear tank, but that caused gas to come out of the front tank at the site of fill up, so I switched it back to the front. The front showed full for days
so I switched it to the rear and it was going down.
and
When I try to start my truck I turn the key and it struggles to start,
so I back off and turn it again and it starts. It does this 9 times out
of 10. It has a remote starter on it and when I use it, it doesn't seem to struggle when it starts it, maybe 1 time out of 10.
Thanks for any help...

Any suggestions??

Peggy

The fuel issue is quite common. I think the problem may be a defective one way valve in the front tank.
Can you be more specific about the starting issue? When you say it "struggles to start" do you mean that the starter is slow or do you mean that although the starter spins it over as fast as ever it takes the engine a long time to fire?

Sorry it took me so long to reply, been sick. Ok on the fuel issue, is the valve hard to get to to replace? On the starting issue the starter turns fast as ever no problem with it turning. 95 % of the time with the remote start it starts right up. On the reverse when I do the manual start it is about 5% of the time that it will start right up. Thank You.

Don`t worry about the reply.
I would like you to get a second opinion on the one way valve in the tank. Un fortunately if it is that it needs the tank has to be dropped (or the bed removed).
On the starting issue the problem may be a defective ign/start switch but I am no expert. This may be a problem peculiar to the Lightning so I would ask you to scroll up the main forum page a bit from this page and post your problem on the Lightning page.
I am sure there will be someone here who can help you.

Look at the tech info at the top of this forum, as there is a section under General Mechanical info that says..."on tank filling another" supposed to be "one tank".
Has all the info on the tank valve problem.

Has all the info on the tank valve problem.
I had a look at that, unfortunately it is for the pre`91 three pump system so I don`t think it applies.
So my advice still is to try thr Lightning page.

Just for grins, I looked up the selector valve at RockAuto, and they are showing the same part numbers for the valves between the '90 F150 5.8L, and the 94 Lightning 5.8L. I think that it could be a selector valve issue, but, I don't have any personal experience with it.

Good man. Lateral thinking. However there is still something in the back of my mind about a one way valve in each tank.

90-93 model F150 had a recall on a faulty check valve within the fuel pump assembly that would allow fuel transfer from one tank to the other causing overflow The recall number is 93V125000 The recall affected 1131000 trucks If your truck was a very early model 94 then you may be able to get ford to fix free of charge This recall should still be in effect as it is a safety issue Hope this helps and enjoy your Lightning Hope to have a Gen 1 someday All recall info can be found at Car Recalls | View Auto Recalls, Defects, & Problems at Autobuyguide.com

Thanks for all the info. I guess I'm going to start at the ford place and see if it will sneak through and I might be able to get some insight on the starting issue. I will let y'all know...
