My truck has the original bumper with the dealership name and city on it. Where can I find an affordable rear bumper? Do other year models fit my 78 F250?
1) what is wrong with the current bumper?
2) Did you check LMC Truck? They sell bumpers.
3) where are you located? I might have a bumper or two laying around.
I guess that only a 78 bumper will fit on a 78 truck since no one answered that question that I had originally asked. I'm kind of guessing that I can use a bumper from either 78 or 79 though. I was hoping that someone can confirm that.
I also asked if there were affordable bumpers. Yes, I did check LMC, which is why I asked where I could find affordable bumpers. I am not willing to spend the $200+ they want for a rear bumper.
I would like a chrome one. I am in Louisiana. My cousin has a chrome bumper across the street from me but it is primed dukie brown with a paint brush because it has some rust holes. I don't really want a bumper with rust holes. Please let me know if you have one I can use.
any rear bumper from 73-79 f series will work, 2wd drive anyway
Cool. Thanks for the fast response. I don't know why I was thinking that pre-78 was more narrow than the 78 & 79.
Also, I am looking for an ignition cylinder and door locks that match. Should I get the truck re-keyed or does someone supply a set where I can use 1 key on everything?

What rear bumper will fit depends on the width of your trucks rear frame rails.
If the rails are 37 1/2" wide (apart), any 1973/79: F100/150 / 2WD F250 and some F350 bumpers will bolt right on.
If your trucks frame rails are 33 1/2" wide, then 1973/77 F250 4WD's (High Boys), some 1978/79 350's will bolt on.
Some 1973/79 F350's have the 33 1/2" wide rear frame rails, some are 37 1/2" wide.
There are several different types of rear bumpers with several different finishes.
Chrome or painted gray or black non step bumper / Chrome or painted gray step bumper.
I was typing this response several hours ago...as I was typing, the electrical power went off in a portion of the LA area.
That's LA as in Los Angeles. It seems whenever it rains here, Edison has problems.
That always amazed me about Los Angeles. Here in Nevada, at the lake, we have been having high winds, lots of ice and two to six feet of heavy snow......... without a flicker..

You have Highway 50 passin' thru Lake Tahoe. Highway 50 is known...far and wide...as the loneliest highway in the US...that is...once it heads east from Fallon NV.
And..you also have the former Henry J. Kaiser estate in Lake Tahoe.
This property was used as Micheal Corleone's home in The Godfather, Part II.
I will add that with alittle modification you can use earlier 80's F100 style bumpers as well. As I just finish installing one on my current project truck 78 F100. I had to use the bracket from my 78 that attaches to the 83 style bumper, if I beleive what vehicle I pulled it from and I only had to drill one set of new holes one per side to actual mount it as if close to where my old 78 stock bumper was. I paid $32 from local
Pull-a-part and it all chrome, with alittle black trim pad running across from center to outside along the middle of the bumper.
Number Dummy's measurement are the key ingredent needed in finding a replacement bumper.
Just adding my .02 worth.

That's true. Matter of fact, this place has a lot of the most expensive residential real estate in the country. There is one estate near here, asking $100mil. Quite a few in the thirty to fifty mil range. Mostly lake front properties.
Oh yes, Hwy 50, that is a really nice drive if you don't need people.

Do you have a pic of that bumper? There is currently an ad in my local Craigslist for a 1980 bumper for $50. If it is in good condition and I like the way yours looks, I'll probably go that route.
Our Pull-a-part was supposed to be open since the beginning of the year, but they are stuck in "buying cars" mode.... everyone already sold their cars for scrap when scrap was paying more than the junkyards, therefore no Pull-a-part.
However, we do have a U Pull It, but there are not many Ford trucks out there.

the keys don't really match since your ignition key is different then your door key, so, if you just need to replace the ignition set go to rockauto.com. I just did this for less than $20.00.

No, one key fits all locks. His ignition got changed out.
