Cool Ford techs....help me understand the procedure!

Had my 30,000 mile transmission service yesterday...flush, filter and fill. Got home and the service write-up sai 20 qts HAVOLINE multi-ATF....not Mercon SP....

So my question is this....aside from asking and being told everything is fine, how do I know if this is a service writer screwup or a tech screw up and I now have the wrong fluid?????

I would take it right back and make them prove they put in SP or have them flush and fill again with the proper fluid. You might even get an ext. warranty on the trans if they screwed up. If they did screw up make sure that you let Ford customer service know about it.

OK...the final chapter....

So, the FORD DEALER advises that they have recently changed fluid products....now using bulk purchased Valvoline Max life full synthetic ATF and that they simply have not yet changed their parts print data....they used to use bulk havoline...which they advised does not meet the warranty equirements, and have thus switched to bulk valvoline max atf....

Having said that, they also sent me a letter from their supplier that states that Valvoline Max life full synthetic meets the requirements of Ford Mercon SP.

A phone call to Valvoline got the same answer as well as a letter faxed form them advising the same.

Looks like all is good....I guess most people just don't read their service writeups!

Are there any other dealers out there doing this??????

If you look at the product specs (see link below) put out by Valvoline on the product it says that it is "suitable" (where as it is "licenced" for Mercon V) for use in Mercon SP applications, but it also says that it does NOT meet viscosity requirements for SP. I do not think I would feel comfortable with any product but true SP in my trans. Ford uses specific fluids for specific reasons...

there are alot of multi use fluids where it can be used in many vehicles. the only thing is an additive is put in with the fluid that adjusts it properties. do i believe it works? its possible. do we do it here at work. nope, whatever fluid ford says put in we do.
