ok soo the fuse panel and the drivers knee's has a relay in it and its number its relay 5, its called the Accessory Delay Relay, i can hear it clicking then my cd player will shut off and i will have a couple lights blink on the instrument panel...i'm guessing this relay is bad??? what all does it control?? it has been doing it intermidently (sp) lately like my radio will shut off then come back on, i'm not having a problem with windows or anything else, just that in the lowerright hand side of the instrument panel i'm getting like 4 lights coming on...i have no clue what it could be..like i said the radio and the lights on the dash are the only thing i'm noticing...do i have a bad ground somewhere?? if soo where can i check for the grounds?? any idea's what else to test??? also while its doing this i can hear a relay in the fuse panel kicking?? basically my radio is shuttiing off, i'm getting like them 4 lights in the bottom right corner, and i can hear a relay kick..
with the fuse panel off..look to the far right..you will see a couple wires mounted to the dash frame..it may be loose.. the CD player may be shorting out as well..you will need to pull it out of the dash to see that..
i pulled it out i cant seem to find anything...like i said tho when it happens i can hear that relay kick and i get them 4 lights on the lower right of the gauge cluster..sounds stupid but it also does it if i like hit my steering wheel with my hand...soo your sayin with the panel off the grounds are towards the passenger side??is that where all of them are???
There are a few things that will cause a relay to drop in and out, loss of hot, loss of ground and low voltage. Electrical Gremlins are the toughest to troubleshoot. Make sure the relay's connectons are tight and not corroded. Look at all of your grounds. When the relay drops in and out, is it say consistant with going over bumps? Or is it just doing it randomly?
well i would say it probaly does it when hitting bumps..then sometimes it comes right back on and sometime for example last night it when off and didnt come back on (havent had a chance this moring to try it)...like i said the only 2 things happening are the cd player losing power and the 4 little instrument panel lights in the lower right hand corner...
ok guys i just ran out this morning and lucky me it wasnt working soo i could check the problem soo i switched relay 5 with 4 and it started working (both are the exact same relay) but i noticed basically with like a little flick with of a finger on the fuse panel and it will beep, shut the radio off for a second then everything comes back on...it seems like something is lose with the fuse panel if i just take my finger and push on any fuse it will do the same thing just kill the power to the cd player, flash them 4 lights then go back to normal...what could be loose with the fuse panel??
The GEM is located on the back of the fuse panel. This controls a ton of stuff in your truck. I would start looking there for loose, broken or corroded wires. Also look for any signs of water. Some of the 99's had issues with water leaking in from the corner of the windsheild. Your truck is a 00 but it dosen't hurt to look.
ok i mean why would it do that like when i flick a fuse or push on a fuse with my finger, i mean i get a beep tone then the cd player shuts off and comes back on and if i push on it again it will do it again...seems like something is loose between the fuse panel and the GEM....just everytime i put a little pressure on it, the thing does it and i know thats my problem..like what holds the 2 together?? could there be a connection loose ??
